The Ethel staff is the Region 3-1A Football Coaching Staff of the Year and Tiger sophomore Anton Clark is the region's Defensive Player of the Year.Ten players each from Ethel and McAdams were honored by selections made by the region’s coaches.After a winless 2019 season, Ethel won two games under first year coach Adam Smith and finished in a three-way tie for the region title with a 2-1 record. Due to the pandemic, only four of the region’s eight schools played football. “It’s definitely an honor when the other guys in your region recognize the job you are doing,” Smith said. “I don’t think we are anywhere near where we should be. But to be recognized for the hard work we put in and the improvements that we did make is an honor for us.”Members of Ethel's coaching staff include offensive line coach James McCuller, defensive coordinator and linebacker coach Mitchell McCurry, quarterback and defensive back coach LaVantis Smith and receiver coach Shayne Elsner.Clark played linebacker and running back for Ethel. Other Ethel players chosen were freshman Marcus Jones, first team quarterback; junior Cyrus Rone, first team wide receiver; sophomore Davion Hunt, first team defensive line; senior Kyle Nabors, first team linebacker; sophomore Mike Miller, second team running back; senior Reeves Threadgill, second team wide receiver; freshman Ladarrius Hubbert, second team offensive line; freshman Jacob Holman, second team defensive line; and senior Hayden Graves, second team linebacker.For McAdams, senior Tromone Bailey was named to the first team as a running back and senior Jaylan Perteet to the first team as a linebacker. Bulldogs on the second team are junior offensive lineman Lazavier Ellis, senior defensive lineman Quaylin Witt, senior linebacker Tayveon Rimmer and junior safety Jalen Greer.Four Bulldogs are honorable mention – freshman Ed Stewart at linebacker, junior Triniko Brown at defensive back, sophomore kick returner Tydarrius Williams and freshman kick returner Chaki Haywood.The region Player of the Year is Simmons sophomore running back Vontrez Rush. Simmons plays Lumberton Friday in the South State final.
