Two McAdams graduates are continuing their athletic careers at the next level and a third will join them this year.
Kendrioun Boatman is a football player at Belhaven University and Querrion Gadson a basketball player for Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit. Percy Lewis has signed to play football at Gulf Coast Community College.
Boatman is a 6-foot-3, 300 pound offensive lineman for Belhaven, an NCAA Division III school in Jackson. Boatman, who played right guard, was one of four freshman starters on the Blazers’ offensive line. As a senior at McAdams in 2018, he was second team all state for 1A.
“He’s a really good player for us,” said Belhaven head football coach Blaine McCorkle. “More than that, he’s a really good person and student. He has a 4.0 (GPA) two semesters in a row. That’s just as impressive as what he has done on the field.”
Boatman had only 10 missed assignments in 10 games. “He’s one of the smartest kids on our team,” McCorkle said. “There’s no reason that he couldn’t be a four-year starter for us, an all conference player, maybe more.”
The American Southwest Conference, which includes Belhaven, has moved all fall sports to the spring. “We’ll treat the fall just like spring and have spring practice in the fall,” McCorkle said.
Gadson is a guard for Southwest Mississippi who saw playing time in all 23 games, coming off the bench as a freshman for the Bears. “He's a special talent.” said Southwest coach Bryan Bender. “He's not only a great basketball player, but a good person.”
Bender said Gadson has a high basketball IQ. “He has special intangibles. One of those is his length, Even though he is 6-1, he has 6-8 arms. His wingspan is so long it makes him an excellent defender and rebounder. He has unbelievable court vision. He can play multiple positions and guard multiple positions. I see him as one of our top guards next year.”
As a freshman, Gadson averaged 12.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists for every 40 minutes of court time.
Gadson averaged 20.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists his senior year at McAdams..
Lewis was a two-way lineman at McAdams who was first team all state on defense last fall when he was credited with 90 tackles. Gulf Coast is the defending NJCAA National Champion.
