Kenneth Nelson will remain as coach of football and boys and girls powerlifting at McAdams and Carl Hathorn will likely continue as girls track coach. But everything else in the coaching staff will change with the new school year.
Kenyon Ross will be the athletic director and boys basketball coach, replacing Hathorn in both positions. He has won state championships in basketball at three schools – for girls at McAdams in 2009, boys at Durant in 2011 and girls at Louisville in 2019. He was the girls coach at Northwest Rankin for the past year.
Ashley Brown will replace Michael Huffman, who took a job at West Lowndes, as head girls basketball coach. Huffman was also the baseball coach, although he never coached any games due to rainouts, then the cancellation of spring sports. He will be replaced by Dustin Alford, who was hired as football offensive coordinator. Alford moves to McAdams after one year coaching linebackers, running backs and special teams to Sebastopol. He previously coached at Leake Central, Neshoba Central, Crystal Springs and Durant.
Alford was slated as an assistant baseball coach, a position he held at Sebastopol. With the departure of Huffman, he was promoted to head coach.
Moses Bates will be the football defensive coordinator and will coach running backs and linebackers. He previously coached at Jim Hill and Whitten Middle School in Jackson, Vancleave, McComb and Hazlehurst.
Ross said tentative plans are for Bates to coach boys track and Hathorn to continue as girls track coach. Hathorn will also coach volleyball, a new sport at the school for girls in the fall.
