The Mississippi Sports Medicine All-Star Girls and Boys Basketball Games will be played on Saturday at the A. E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton and has an Attala County flavor.
The girls’ 1A/2A/3A game will tip off at 3 p.m. while the boys’ 1A/2A/3A contest will be played at 4:30 p.m. The girls’ 4A/5A/6A game will begin at 6 p.m. while the boys’ 4A/5A/6A tilt will tip off at 7:30 p.m.
Playing in the game from McAdams’ junior standout Jakyra Young, one of the 12 players chosen to play in the small-school girls game. Young had a standout season for the Lady Bulldogs, winning the Division 5-1A Offensive Player of the Year and helping McAdams win the 5-1A regular-season and tournament titles.
Young averaged 24.7 points a game and 10.7 rebounds a game as the Lady Bulldogs went 16-11 on the year before being eliminated by Hamilton in the third round of the Class 1A playoffs. Young had a season-high 43 points against Louisville — the MHSAA Class 4A State Champions — this season.
“She can definitely score,” McAdams coach Michael Huffman said earlier this season. “She grew a lot this summer and is about 5-foot-11 now. She also a very good rebounder for a guard. Right now we are trying to get her to work on her man-to-man defense because we know that’s what the colleges are going to be looking at."
Longtime MAC supporter Mississippi Sports Medicine is sponsoring the game for the 18th consecutive year. Tickets are $10 per person for all ages and seating is general admission and good for both games.
The North girls 4A/5A/6A team will be led by former McAdams coach Kenyon Ross of Louisville and Fredrick Morris of Neshoba Central.
