Somebody will get the first win of the young football season when McAdams hosts Ethel Friday. McAdams is 0-2, coming off a bye week, while Ethel is 0-3.
McAdams coach Kenneth Nelson expects an emotional game. “Our team will be full of emotion; their team will be full of emotion. When the emotion settles down, I think it will be a pretty decent game.”
It will be the first Region 3-1A game for both teams and Nelson said it is a must win if the Bulldogs hope to make the playoffs.,
McAdams opened the season with losses to J.Z. George, a 2A school, 20-0 and West Lowndes, 12-8. Ethel has losses to West Lowndes 34-6, Central Holmes Christian School 42-7 and Hamilton 7-0.
“They like to run the football,” Nelson said of Ethel. “They can also pass the ball, They had some success passing the ball against West Lowndes.”
Luther Clark is Ethel's leading runner with 24 carries for 122 yards. Reeves Threadgill has thrown for 185 yards. Izik Stewart, a senior wide receiver and linebacker, has four receptions for 66 yards, three carries for 77 yards, including a 71-yard run for the Tigers TD against Central Holmes, and has 15 tackles, with four for losses.
McAdams spent last week working on conditioning, which is vital for a team with only 24 players on the roster. “We didn't focus on another team,” Nelson said. “We didn't game plan for Ethel.”
That game planning was done this week.
Jalen Perteet will take over the placekicking duties for McAdams. He has progressed well in practice according to Nelson.
The Bulldogs came out of the West Lowndes game with some minor sprains and bruises. With a week off to heal, Nelson said his team should be 100 percent physically for Ethel.
