Tigers battle Taylorsville for a chance at South State title

Update: The Ethel Tigers defeated Taylorville Wednesday and will be play Resurrection for the South State championship with the winner playing for the state title. The first game of the series will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Ethel.

Ethel High School names new head football coach

Ethel didn’t have to look far to find its next head football coach.
After head coach Adam Smith resigned to take the head job at Loyd Star, Ethel turned to boys basketball coach L.V. Smith as the new football coach.
Smith was an assistant on last year’s team. The former college player said the process happened fairly fast.

Lady Tigers come close to playing for state championship

The Ethel Lady Tigers came within one game of playing for the Class 1A state championship.
After splitting the season series, division rivals Ethel and Sebastopol faced off in a three-game series.
Sebastopol won game one of the series 1-0 on Friday but Ethel bounced back and took game two of the series 5-0.

Tigers advance to 3rd round of Class 1A playoffs

The Ethel Tigers appeared headed for an easy series against Richton but ended up in a dog fight with the Rebels.
Ethel won 11-3 in game 1 of the series but then lost 10-8 in 10 innings to the Rebels on Friday night. But the Tigers bounced back on Saturday and took a 4-1 win and clinch the series.
