McAdams girls finished first and boys second at South State powerlifting meets, the 1A meet for boys and Class I (1A and 2A schools) meet for girls. Both teams qualified seven lifters for the state meet.Ethel boys were third and girls fifth. Boys have five qualifiers and the girls three.South State meets were hosted by McAdams. The top three lifters in each weight class qualify for state meets at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson, along with the top three from North State meets.Sacred Heart won the boys meet with 48 points, followed by McAdams 41, Ethel 26, Richton 20, Leake County 18, Nanih Waiya 12, Noxapater 12, Lumberton 7, and Stringer 2.In the girls meet, McAdams had 46 points, St. Patrick 39, Noxapater 27, Scott Central 27, Ethel 15, and Sacred Heart 13.McAdams boys had three individual champions. Tydarrius Williams won the 132-pound weight class with a total of 850 pounds for the squat, bench press and dead lift. Chaki Haywood won at 148 (770) and Jaylan Perteet at 220 (1,140). The Bulldogs also had a second place by D.K, Williams at 198; third places by Chris Harmon at 165, MeKyle Riley at 181 and Malique Greer at 275; fourth places by Nathan Donaldson at 114 and JaEric Jones at 308; and fifth places by Jimmy Wilson at 132 and Jatarrius Roundtree at 242. Although only the top three move on, the top five earn points for the team — seven points for the winner, five for second, and 3-2-1 for third through fifth.Ethel had one boys champion, Anton Clark with 855 pounds at the 198 lb. weight class. Kentrell Dotson at 132, Ladarrius Hubert at 220, and Devin Granger at 242 finished second. Kesus Collins was third at super heavyweight and Gage Steed notched a fifth at 114.Sacred Heart had five individual winners and qualified eight lifters for the state meet.McAdams girls had five winners – Amber Harmon at 114 (550), Alyssa Newsome at 132 (455), Shawnessy Martin at 165 (695), Jailyn Riley at 198 (610) and A’gnwshia Henderson at 220-plus (615). Seconds were earned by Kristal Wilson at 123 and Kaloni Thurmond at 220-plus, and Makayla Riley earned fifth place at 181.Ethel girls had one winner, Zakiya Dotson at 123 with 495 pounds. Jesse Martin at 148 and Jada Lambert at 220-plus earned thirds, and a fourth was won by Addison Stubbs at 132.The girls state meet will be Friday, April 16, followed by the boys meet the next day.
