The Kosciusko boys and girls basketball teams both suffered tough losses at the West Lowndes Shootout. The Whippets were edged by Okolona 49-48, the Lady Whippets by Noxubee County 60-58.
The Whippets loss resulted from 19 missed free throws, along with missed layups and turnovers.
“That has been the story this year,”said coach Eleazarus Greenleaf.
The game went down to the wire. “We had numerous chances to put the game away at the free throw line. We couldn't convert.”
Ryan Tillman had 11 points and two steals for the Whippets, Jaybre Pierce 10 points and four steals and Kantavious Brown nine points amd 13 rebounds.
The Lady Whippets led most of the game, but Noxubee County pulled out the victory with two 3-point baskets and two free throws in the final two minutes.
“We started off really well on offense and defense,” said coach Cory Guyton. “We have learn how to finish the game.”
D'naylah Williams and Jamiya Gray both scored 21 points. Williams had 15 rebounds and three assists, Gray eight rebounds.
The Whippets and Lady Whippets played Amanda Elzy Tuesday and have home games with McAdams Friday and Amanda Elzy Saturday,
