Ethel's fist ever volleyball match was a loss to Sebastopol 25-13, 25-4, 25-16, but coach Chris Schuster was pleased with his team's performance.
“It was a good first game,” Schuster said. “We have a lot to learn. We have a lot to improve upon. But all-in-all, we played better than I expected. We have a long way to go. I just hope we keep getting better.”
Abbie Ellington played well for Ethel, receiving, serving and spiking.
Ethel played Sebastopol again Tuesday and has a home match with West Lowndes Thursday.
CROSS-COUNTRY
Ethel has only four cross-country runners, two boys and two girls, and none have previous experience in the sport.
“This is their first year. They are not experienced, but they are working hard toward the future,” said coach Chance Whitten. “We are trying to get where we can compete, hopefully in the near future.”
The boys are Austin Hanson, a senior, and sophomore Cooper McDaniel. Freshman Jaylen Black and junior Allison Thomas are the girls.
The first meet will be Sept. 12 at French Camp. With fewer than five boys runners and five girls runners, Ethel will not be able to compete as a team.
