The MaxPreps website for the 2020 McAdams football schedule shows an Aug. 14 game with Jackson Academy and a Nov. 6 game with Ray Brooks. Both are incorrect.
Aug. 14 is the date for MHSAA teams to play scrimmages, but it will not be Jackson Academy. “I don't know how that got on there,” said coach Kenneth Nelson.
McAdams does not currently have a scrimmage, but Nelson hopes to schedule one. “We're going to do something,” he said.
The 10-game schedule includes one new name and one new opponent.
The new name is McEvans, the result of the consolidation of Shaw and Ray Brooks, two teams McAdams played last year. McAdams will play the consolidated school Oct, 2, but will not have a game Nov. 6.
The new opponent is Union. “They're a pretty good 2A school,” Nelson said. Union replaces Loyd Star on the schedule.
All games are scheduled for Fridays at 7 p.m. McAdams will be off Sept. 18 and Nov. 6.
The Bulldogs will compete in Region 3-1A, which has been reduced from nine to eight teams due to the consolidation of Shaw and Ray Brooks. Other region teams are Coffeeville, Ethel, Leflore County, McEvans, Simmons, West Bolivar and West Tallahatchie.
McAdams returns many of its key players from a team that went 6-6 last year and qualified for the 1A playoffs by finishing fourth in the region with a 5-3 record. West Bolivar won the region, Leflore County was second and West Tallahatchie third.
Playoffs for MHSAA Class 1A begin on Nov. 13.
