The Star-Herald announced its All-Area Team in softball this week. Here are the stats of our selected players:
Jessica Mitchell ~ EHS ~ So., Mitchell hit .383 for the Lady Tigers with eight doubles, one HR and 24 RBI. On the mound Mitchell had a 1.89 ERA with 74 K’s.
Brookelyn Box ~ FCA ~ Jr., Box hit .447 for the Lady Panthers with two doubles and four triples.
Audrey Claire Henderson ~ KHS ~ Sr., Henderson hit .341 for the North State Champion Lady Whippets with five doubles, three triples, 34 runs scored, five stolen bases and 15 RBI. Henderson received All-Region 4-4A honors as well.
Kelly Hood ~ KHS ~ 8th, Hood hit .330 for the Lady Whippets with one double, three triples, 37 runs scored, 26 stolen bases and 12 RBI. Hood was named All-Region 4-4A as well.
Avery Bouchillon ~ EHS ~ Sr., The East Mississippi signee hit .343 for the Lady Tigers with two doubles and 22 RBI.
Madeline McCown ~ KHS ~ So., McCown was named to the All-Region 4-4A team for hitting .306 for the Lady Whippets with five doubles, three triples, 23 runs scored and 27 RBI.
Breanna Blaine ~ EHS ~ Fr., Blaine hit .464 for the Lady Tigers with four doubles, three triples, 34 runs scored, 16 stolen bases and 16 RBI.
Katie Lawrence ~ KHS ~ Sr., Lawrence was named The Player of the Year for The Star-Herald All-Area Team, The Clarion Ledger All-State First Team, Region 4-4A MVP, All-State Tournament Team for striking out 153 hitters in 121.1 innings pitched, compiling a 1.04 ERA for the Lady Whippets. She only yielded 18 earned runs on 15 walks and 78 hits. At the plate she hit a double and 13 singles while knocking in eight runs for Kosciusko.
Sidney Rone ~ EHS ~ So., Rone hit .388 for the Lady Tigers with seven doubles, one HR and 28 RBI.
Abby Leathers ~ FCA ~ 7th, Leathers hit .405 for the Lady Panthers with two doubles in 2017.
Madison Odom ~ EHS ~ Fr., Odom hit .362 for the Lady Tigers with three doubles, 35 runs scored, 11 stolen bases and 17 RBI.
Katie Mitchell ~ KHS ~ So., Mitchell hit .351 for the Lady Whippets wiht nine doubles, one triple, six stolen bases, 18 runs scored and 25 RBI. Mitchell compiled a 1.54 ERA in 90.2 innings pitched for the Lady Whippets with 85 K’s. Mitchell was named All-Region 4-4A and to the Clarion Ledger All-State Second Team and to the All-State Tournament Team.
Brooklyn Pitt ~ EHS ~ Jr., Pitt hit .345 for the Lady Tigers with four doubles, two triples and 28 RBI.
Maddy Gilmore ~ KHS ~ So., Gilmore hit .381 for the Lady Whippets with six doubles, three triples, two HR’s, 24 runs scored and 19 RBI. Gilmore received All-Region 4-4A honors as well.
Emma Rush ~ KHS ~ 8th, Rush was named All-Region 4-4A for throwing out 56% of runners trying to steal (9 for 16) and picking four runners off. She had a .987 fielding percentage for committing only five errors in 226 chances.
AnnaLeigh Jones ~ KHS ~ 8th, Jones hit .357 for the Lady Whippets with five doubles, one HR, nine RBI and 20 runs scored.
Skyler Busbea ~ FCA ~ Jr., Busbea hit .459 for the Lady Panthers with four doubles, two triples and two HR’s.
Josie Meggs ~ KHS ~ Fr., Meggs hit .441 for the Lady Whippets with 24 steals, seven doubles, two triples, 36 runs scored and 22 RBI. Meggs was named All-Region 4-4A and to the All-State Tournament Team.
