The McAdams Bulldogs won the Region 5-1A Tournament with a resounding 75-53 win over cross-county rival Ethel on Friday night while the Lady Bulldogs fell 68-49 to the Durant Lady Tigers.
The McAdams Bulldogs advanced to the championship game after defeating Montgomery County 58-56 last Thursday night and the Lady Bulldogs advanced after a 60-29 win over Ethel on Thursday night as well. The Bulldogs are currently 14-12 overall while the Lady Bulldogs are 23-7 overall after a 52-25 first-round playoff win over Salem on Monday night. The Bulldogs played Mississippi School for the Deaf on Tuesday night and the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Stringer on Friday night for second round action.
The Ethel Lady Tigers had their season come to an end on Monday night in a Class 1A MHSAA South Playoff game when they fell to Mississippi School for the Deaf 59-54 to finish their season 5-19 overall. The Lady Tigers defeated Montgomery County in the first game of the Region 5 Tournament last Tuesday and were defeated by McAdams 60-29 on Thursday night.
The Ethel Tigers basketball team defeated French Camp in their first contest of the tournament and then defeated Durant 53-39 on Thursday night, setting themselves up in the Region 5-1A Tournament championship game with the McAdams Bulldogs. The Tigers dropped this contest 75-53 but did advance to a round one playoff contest against Bogue Chitto in Ethel on Tuesday night. The Tigers are currently 7-13 overall.
The Kosciusko Whippets saw their season come to an end on Tuesday night with a 66-56 loss to Caledonia in game one of the Region 4-4A tournament to finish the season 19-10 overall. The Lady Whippets defeated Noxubee County and Louisville to advance to the championship game of the Region 4 tourney, losing a heartbreaker to Leake Central 61-59. The Lady Whippets advanced to a first-round Class 4A North Playoff contest against Ripley, but fell in the contest 51-32 to finish their season 17-16 overall.
