The McAdams Bulldogs keep rolling.
The Bulldogs (16-12) won twice last week by defeating the Mississippi School for the Deaf (MSD) 83-44 on Tuesday in first-round action and Sacred Heart 71-55 in second-round action on Saturday to advance to the MHSAA Class 1A quarterfinals on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will play Shaw at 10:30 a.m. at Jackson State University.
In last week’s round one game against MSD the Bulldogs took a 32-9 first quarter lead and increased that margin to 50-13 at the half. The Bulldogs cruised the rest of the way, winning the contest 83-44 forcing a second-round game against Stringer last Saturday. The Bulldogs won that contest 71-55 to advance into the MHSAA Class 1A quarterfinals.
The offensive leaders against MSD were Kristopher Brown with seven points, four rebounds and two steals; Charles Kilbert with seven points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal; Javonte Teague with 19 points and three boards; Querrion Gadson with 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and six steals and McCarvin Carter with eight points, five rebounds and two steals.
Stats were not available at press time for the Sacred Heart contest.
Lady Bulldogs roll into quarterfinals
The McAdams Lady Bulldogs (23-6) crushed Salem last Monday night by a score of 52-25 in first-round playoff action and then decimated Stringer 78-39 to advance into the MHSAA Class 1A quarterfinals. The Lady Bulldogs will play Shaw at the Mississippi Coliseum at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. In their first round contest against Salem, the Lady Bulldogs took a quick 27-5 lead after one quarter of play and led 42-11 at the half. McAdams cruised to a 52-25 win over the Lady Wildcats to advance into the second round.
The leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were Santija Rockett with seven points, four rebounds and three steals; Seneca Evans with eight points, eight rebounds and two steals; Kiara Brown with eight points, two rebounds and two assists; Ke’Mara Atterberry with eight points and three rebounds and Kneisha Erving with 13 points and 15 rebounds.
In Friday night’s second round win over Stringer the Lady Bulldogs took control early and led 47-20 at the half. The Lady Red Devils could not do much offensively in the second half and McAdams cruised to a 78-39 win.
The offensive leaders for the Lady Bulldogs were Evans with 13 points, 13 rebounds and four steals; Atterberry with 12 points, six boards, one assist and nine steals; Jakyra Young with nine points, four assists and three steals; Miracle Phillips with 25 points, five boards, two assists and five steals and Irving with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
