The McAdams Bulldogs finished the week sitting atop the Region 5-1A standings at 4-0 with an overall record of 9-9 after defeating Region 5 foe Ethel on Tuesday night, falling to West Lowndes on Friday and winning again on Saturday over Coldwater.
In last Tuesday night’s region matchup with county rival Ethel, the Bulldogs took early command of the contest and would take a 21-7 first quarter lead. The Tigers fought back with 28 second quarter points, but the Bulldogs still led 45-33 at the half. The Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 14-7 in the third quarter and 22-20 in the fourth but could not overcome their slow first quarter start, giving the Bulldogs a hard-fought 72-69 win.
The leaders for the Tigers were D’Ayres Merritt with 22 points; Sean Williams with 12 points and five assists; Julius Erving with eight points and eight boards and Lyndon Veasley with 10 boards and eight blocks.
The leaders for the Bulldogs were Maurice Fleming with five rebounds; Javonte Teague with 19 points and nine boards; T’Calvan Bolton with 10 points, seven boards, two assists and one steal; Corte Dotson with 18 points, seven rebounds, one assist and four steals; Querrion Gadson with 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals and John Bayne with six boards.
In last Friday night’s 55-50 loss to the West Lowndes Panthers, the Bulldogs took a 15-14 lead after one quarter of play. The Panthers fought back for a 24-24 tie at the break and would lead 42-37 after three quarters of play. The Bulldogs and Panthers both scored 13 fourth quarter points, giving West Lowndes the win.
The leaders for the Bulldogs were Teague with 22 points, five rebounds and two steals; Dotson with four points and four rebounds; Bayne with four points, nine rebounds and three steals and Gadson with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
The Bulldogs defeated the Coldwater Cougars 57-41 on Saturday and controlled the contest from the jump. After grabbing a quick 7-6 first quarter lead, the Bulldogs took command of the contest in the second quarter, taking a 24-15 lead into the half. After a 20-point third quarter increased the Bulldog lead to 44-24 over the Cougars, McAdams cruised in the fourth to take the win on the road.
The Bulldog leaders were Teague with 15 points, two rebounds and three steals; Gadson with 16 points, six boards, five assists and two steals; Bolton with six points, two rebounds, one assist and two steals; TyDerrius Davis with five points and four boards; Dotson with four rebounds and four steals; Fleming with three points, three rebounds and three assists; Webster with two points, five rebounds and three steals; Bayne with five boards and two steals and Zytavia Ball with two points and three boards.
The Bulldogs played at Montgomery County on Tuesday night and will host French Camp on Friday night at 6 p.m.
