The Ethel fast-pitch softball team saw plenty of action last week, as the Lady Tigers picked up two wins in five contests.
The week started with a 10-3 win over Noxapater last Tuesday, and continued with 9-4 and 11-5 setbacks to a pair of Class 2A teams in East Webster and Union Thursday and Friday.
On Saturday, the Lady Tigers dropped a 7-4 decision to Lake in the Sebastopol Tournament before rebounding with a solid 10-0 win over Leake Central to improve to 8-5 on the season.
This week, Ethel was scheduled to go to Nanih Waiya on Monday and to Eupora on Tuesday.
Next week, the Lady Tigers are scheduled to visit French Camp Academy on Tuesday (April 3) and host Noxapater on Thursday (April 5).
At Noxapater last week, the Lady Tigers broke a 3-3 tie with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before pulling away with a five-run rally in the seventh.
Breanna Blaine had a pair of triples and two runs scored while winning pitcher Jessica Mitchell had two singles, a double, two runs and an RBI.
Jaidyn Sims tripled, scored twice and had two RBIs; Sidney Rone had a double, a run and an RBI; Kambrie Hodges doubled and drove in a run;
Madison Odom singled, scored twice and also drove in two runs; Hailey Wiegel singled and scored.
Thursday at East Webster, a nine-run rally by the host Lady Wolverines did in the Lady Tigers, who led 1-0 before the big inning by East Webster.
Rone singled, doubled, scored and drove in three runs and Emily Mitchell had two hits and two runs for the Lady Tigers.
Wiegel added a double; Blaine singled and scored; Hodges singled and took the pitching loss; Jessica Mitchell added an RBI.
Friday night, the Lady Tigers lost a seesaw affair with Union after the Lady Yellowjackets took control with five runs in the second inning.
Jessica Mitchell homered, singled twice, scored twice and drove in three and Odom had two singles, a double, two runs and an RBI to lead the way.
Sims also collected three hits; Hodges had a pair of singles; Rone doubled and scored; Blaine, Brooklyn Pitt and Emily Mitchell all had singles. Jessica Mitchell was the losing pitcher.
In Saturday’s first game in the Sebastopol Tournament, the Lady Tigers fell after Lake scored the game’s final four runs.
Emily Mitchell singled, doubled and drove in a run and Jessica Mitchell – who also took the loss in the circle – also singled and doubled.
Sims singled, scored and drove in a run; Hodges and Wiegel both doubled and had one RBI each; Blaine singled and had one RBI; Shelby Schuster singled and scored; Pitt also scored.
The Lady Tigers rebounded in a big way by blanking Leake Central 10-0, with Hodges and Emily Mitchell combining on the shutout.
Jessica Mitchell singled, tripled, drove in a pair of runs and scored and Blaine singled, doubled and scored three runs to lead Ethel.
Pitt and Wiegel both had two hits, one run and one RBI; Rone doubled, scored and drove in two; Emily Mitchell singled and scored; Sims added one run and one RBI.
