Kosciusko maintained its perfect record on the 2018 fast-pitch softball season by knocking off a pair of visiting foes in spring break tournament action last Monday.
The Lady Whippets got a no-hitter in a 13-0 win over Nanih Waiya, then banged out 11 base hits in an 8-3 win over Lake.
Those wins lifted Kosciusko to 10-0 entering this week, when they were to travel to Noxubee County on Tuesday. Thursday, the Lady Whippets host New Hope, and
Fiday they are scheduled to go to Winona.
Next week, Kosy is scheduled to visit Louisville on Tuesday (March 27), go to Leake Central on Thursday (March 29) and host Northwest Rankin in a doubleheader on Friday (March 30).
In the win over Nanih Waiya last Monday, Maddy Gilmore and Sara Caroline Henderson combined on a no-hitter in the rout-shortened victory.
Gilmore was the winner in the circle, striking out four in three innings while Henderson added a scoreless inning.
Kosciusko scored twice in the bottom of the first, five times in the second and six more times in the third.
Madeline McCown had three hits including a double, a run and five RBIs and Katie Mitchell had two hits, three runs and two RBIs to lead the way.
Abigail Myers tripled and had one RBI; Josie Meggs doubled, scored twice and had an RBI; Kathryn Claire Schuler singled and scored twice; AnnaLeigh Jones had one hit and three runs scored; both Henderson and Alexandra West scored once.
Jones was 3-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBIs to lead Kosy’s offensive attack in the 8-3 win over Lake.
Meggs added a pair of hits, two runs and three stolen bases while McCown singled, tripled, drove in three runs and also scored.
Gilmore added one hit and two runs scored, while Mitchell, Mackenzie Ryals and Emma Rush all added one hit. Myers drove in a pair of runs and West scored twice.
Mitchell was the winning pitcher, striking out eight and walking none in the complete-game effort. She allowed just one earned run.
McCown was highlighted by the Jackson Clarion-Ledger as one of its players of the week. She drove in eight runs, while going 5-of-8 at the plate and is currently fourth in the state with 18 RBIs this season. Among the favorites she listed was chicken as her favorite food, Hawaii as her dream vacation and Alabama as her favorite team.
