The Ethel Tigers (7-10) and Lady Tigers (12-7) played both Montgomery County and Coffeeville last week with the Lady Tigers winning twice while the Tigers split, falling to Montgomery County.
In last Tuesday night’s 49-39 loss to the Montgomery County Hornets, the Tigers jumped out to an early 11-5 lead after one quarter of play and would lead 18-17 at the half. The Hornets took a 34-26 lead after three quarters of play and pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Tigers 16-12 to take the win. The leaders for the Tigers were D’Ayers Merritt with 12 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and one steal; Akeem Erving with six points, eight rebounds, one assist and two steals; D’Aquannay Dotson with 13 points, five rebounds and one steal; Ty’Kevin Wade with four points, 11 rebounds, two assists and two steals and Sean Williams with two points, three rebounds and one assist.
In the Lady Tigers 60-42 win over the Lady Hornets, Ethel took an early 15-6 lead after one quarter of play and led 25-10 at the half. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Hornets in the second half 35-32 to take the win. The leaders for the Lady Tigers were Dotty Townsend with 18 points; Akiah Erving with a game-high 27 points; Amiriacle Edwards with eight points and Carlye Pender with five points.
Ethel hosted Coffeeville last Friday night and won the contest 70-67. The Tigers jumped out to an early 16-10 first quarter lead but trailed at the half by a score of 31-27. The Tigers and Pirates both scored 19 in the third quarter to push the score to 50-46 with Coffeeville still in the lead but a big fourth quarter from Ethel decided the contest. The Tigers outscored the Pirates 24-17 in the final stanza to take the three-point win. The leaders for the Tigers were Merritt with 15 points, six rebounds, six assists, three steals and a blocked shot; Wade with seven points, six rebounds, four assists and one steal; Williams with five points, two rebounds, four assists and one steal; Erving with eight points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals, Dotson with 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals and Izik Stewart with five points, one rebound, one assist and one steal.
The Lady Tigers took a quick 11-5 lead after one quarter of play but fell behind 22-20 at the half in their 56-45 win over Coffeeville. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Pirates 36-23 in the second half to take the win. The leaders for the Lady Tigers were Townsend with six points; Erving with 24 points; Edwards with eight points; Takia Miller with five points and Pender with 11 points.
Ethel hosted Durant this past Tuesday night and will travel to Pisgah on Friday for a 6 p.m. contest.
