The Ethel Tigers improved to 10-4 overall on the year with a shutout win over the Winona Christian Stars last Tuesday night in Ethel by a score of 8-0 and then traveled to Bogue Chitto on Friday night where they won 11-3 over the Bobcats.
In the Tigers’ win over Winona Christian, Hayes Wood got the start and win by pitching seven complete, allowing no runs on five hits while striking out five and walking one. The Tigers scored six runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth after being shutout in the first three innings to take the win.
The offensive leaders for the Tigers were Tyson Steen with a double, one run scored and an RBI; Hayden Beall with a single, one run scored and an RBI; Hayden Burns with a single and one RBI; Wood with two singles and one run scored; Alex Schuster with three singles, one run scored and two RBI; Brady Odom with a single and one run scored; Tanner Reeves with one run scored; Cam Campbell with one run scored and Alex McMullin with one run scored.
On Friday night down in Bogue Chitto, Tyson Steen got the start and win for the Tigers, allowing three runs (two earned), in seven complete. Steen struck out eight Bobcats while walking only one on the night. The Tigers fell behind 2-1 after one complete, but scored seven in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth to put the game away. Bogue Chitto could only muster one more run after two in the first, which came in the fifth inning, in the 11-3 loss.
The offensive leaders for the Tigers were Steen with a home run, single, three runs scored and two RBI; Beall with a single and one RBI; Burns with a single and one run scored; Wood with one run scored; Schuster with a single and two runs scored; Blake Wilkinson with a single and one run scored; Odom with a double and two RBI and Cody Weeks with two singles and two RBI.
The Tigers hosted the French Camp Panthers on Tuesday night and will travel to French Camp on Friday night for a 6 p.m. contest in game two of the Region 6-1A series opener. The Tigers will host Leake County on Tuesday night in another Region 6-1A matchup at 7 p.m.
