The Ethel Lady Tiger softball team continued their winning ways with three victories over the past week, raising their record to 5-1 on the season. Victories over Nanih Waiya 10-0, Winona 8-6 and Noxapater 11-2 made it a very productive week for the Lady Tigers. The only hiccup was a 6-5 loss to Mantachie in a twelve-inning marathon that the Lady Tigers let slip away after leading most of the way.
Erin Watkins has continued to pitch well for the Tigers, claiming all five wins while only walking two runners per game. In the hitting department the Lady Tigers are as strong as they have ever been, pounding out 14 hits against Noxapater in the blowout win.
Sidney Rone led the way with four hits followed by Brooklyn Pitt with three. Jessica Mitchell led the way against Winona with three hits along with Avery Bouchillon with two hits. Carlye Pender, Clarissa Smith, Halea Wood and Breanna Blaine all had hits over the week as well.
“We still haven’t put a whole game together, though against Noxapater we did play well at times,” said head coach Chris Schuster. “Little mistakes have kept games closer than they should be and we need to continue to get better if we want to have a chance in the district.”
The Lady Tigers are at home Thursday night against Ray Brooks and then will travel to Carthage to take on the Leake Central Lady Gators next Monday at 5 p.m.
“I want to thank all the parents for their help and support with the hamburger plates over the weekend,” concluded Schuster. “It was a real success and it could not have been done without you.”
