After a week of icy conditions that had the Ethel Tigers and Lady Tigers on a week-long layoff, a trip to Coffeeville was in order for Monday night. The Tigers (5-8) fell hard to the Pirates by a score of 75-47 while the Lady Tigers (8-6) won convincingly 64-42.
In the Lady Tigers contest against the Lady Pirates, Ethel took a quick 17-12 first quarter lead and would go into the half up 28-21. The Lady Tigers poured it on in the second half with an offensive explosion that allowed them to take a 49-30 lead into the fourth quarter. The Lady Tigers once again outscored Coffeeville 15-12 to push the final tally to 64-42. The leaders for the Lady Tigers were Dejah Merritt with six points; Akilah Erving with 20 points; Amiracle Edwards with six points; Takia Miller with three points; Carlye Pender with five points; Dotty Townsend with 20 points; Bridges Pinkard with two points and Tylisha Meaders with a basket.
In the Tigers loss to the Pirates Ethel fell behind 20-9 after one quarter of play and trailed 36-20 at the half. The Tigers found a little more offense in the second half as did the Pirates, and were once again outscored 16-12 in the third quarter and 23-15 in the fourth.
Ethel hosted McAdams on Tuesday night and will travel to French Camp Academy on Friday for a 6 p.m. tip.
