Ethel finished tied for 10th at the MHSAA 1A girls track meet with 18 points. The boys tied for 21st with six points.
Dejah Merritt was the top individual performer for the girls’ team. She won a bronze medal with a third place finish in the 300 hurdles with a time of 51.31. That was better than the time for her first place finish at the South State meet a week earlier.
Also for the girls, Zakiya Dotson was fifth in the 100 in 13.04, the 800 relay team finished fourth (1:53.20) and the 400 team was sixth (54.62). Merritt and Dotson were joined on the 800 team by Jererika Merritt and Takia Miller and on the 400 team by Miller and Tylisha Meaders.
Miller and Dotson were both recovering from injuries suffered at the South State meet. “I feel they ran their best and that is what counts,” said coach Corey Parish.
For the boys, Izik Stewart was fifth in the 110 hurdles (19.11) and seventh in the 300 hurdles (51.35).
“I was proud of our achievements and all our runners this season,” Parish said. “We look forward to next year.”
