The McAdams boys and girls basketball teams both split their first two Region 5-1A games, with losses to West Lowndes and victories over Noxapater.
The Bulldogs lost to West Lowndes 88-42, then broke a four-game losing streak with a 77-53 victory over Noxapater. The Lady Bulldogs rebounded from a 68-42 loss to West Lowndes with a 58-33 win over Noxapater.
“Coming off the (Christmas) break, I was disappointed in how we played,” girls coach Michael Huffman said of the West Lowndes game.
But he was much happier with the team's performance against Noxapater. “All of them played hard. We have to play like that the rest of the year.”
The Lady Bulldogs led Noxapater 42-16 at the half on its way to the easy win behind the play of Iyania Malone, with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Kiara Brown, with 11 points and nine rebounds. The Lady Bulldogs had 28 steals, led by Makeria Griffin with seven.
Brown had 19 points and Moleyia Harmon 11 in the West Lowndes loss. West Lowndes, unbeaten and top ranked among the state's 1A teams according to the website MaxPreps, was led by Tydajasha Hood with 16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals.
The Bulldogs scored 44 first-half points in the victory over Noxapater.
In region games, McAdams boys and girls played Nanih Waiya Tuesday and will be at French Camp Friday.
