Cold shooting in the second half doomed the McAdams girls basketball team to a 44-31 loss to Greenwood in the PMG Classic played at Kosciusko High School. The Lady Bulldogs led 23-17 at the half, but were outscored 28-8 after intermission.
“We had a lot of first game jitters,” said coach Michael Huffman.
Kiara Brown, a senior wing, led McAdams with 14 points.
Huffman said Brown and sophomore wing Shatikka Greer played well. Greer was two of four from the floor. “I need to get her to shoot more,” Huffman said. “I have to get her to understand that one of her roles is to score.”
McAdams is a 1A school and Greenwood is 4A. “I try to play a hard schedule at the beginning. It gets us ready for district play,” Huffman said.
The McAdams boys did not have a classic game. Both teams opened the regular season Tuesday against Philadelphia, tentatively have a home game with Amanda Elzy Friday and will be at Leake Central Saturday.
Both McAdams teams won Region 5-1A and reached the third round of the 1A playoffs last season The girls were 16-11 with playoffs victories over Nanih Waiya and Sacred Heart. The boys were 15-12 and defeated Noxapater and Leake County in the playoffs.
