The McAdams boys and girls basketball teams both won two Region 5-1A games last week.
The Bulldogs edged Noxapater 57-55 and outlasted Nanih Waiya 57-51. The Lady Bulldogs downed Noxapater 54-14 and Nanih Waiya 44-31.
Kiara Brown corrected on 14 of 19 shots and scored a career high 34 points for the Lady Bulldogs in an easy win over Noxapater. Moleyia Harmon had 14 rebounds, Makeria Griffin and Wel'Asia Roby 10 each.
Brown added 15 points in the victory over Nanih Waiya and is averaging 19.4 for the season,
“It was a hard fought ball game. Nanih Waiya plays a pretty good brand of basketball on the offensive end. They don't make too many mistakes,” said McAdams coach Michael Huffman.
He was pleased with the scoring support for Brown. “She was off a little bit, but everyone else picked it up.”
Harmon, Roby and Haley Perteet had six points each, Shatikka Greer five and Iyania Malone four. Harmon also had 15 rebounds and Roby had 10.
Huffman said Greer and Griffin played well on the defensive end. Griffin had seven rebounds, six steals and four assists.
The two victories moved the Lady Bulldogs into second place in the region with a 6-2 record prior to a game Tuesday with French Camp. West Lowndes leads at 8-0 (18-0 overall). A loss to French Camp dropped Ethel to third at 5-3.
The Bulldogs improved to 4-4, tied for third with French Camp. West Lowndes and Ethel were both 7-1 prior to a game Tuesday between the two.
The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs complete the regular season Friday with games at Ethel.
McAdams will host the region tournament next week. The Bulldogs will play either Nanih Waiya or Noxapater in the opening round. The girls will earn a first round bye, advancing to the semifinals, if they are able to finish second.
The top four from the tournament advance to the 1A state tournament beginning February 17 for girls and February 1 for boys.
