Kosciusko High School adds three to football coaching staff
With the approval of three new coaches during Monday night’s meeting of the Kosciusko School Board the football staff for first-year head football coach Casey Orr’s Whippets is nearly complete.
The board approved the hiring of Kurt Pinnix, Jon Cates, and Wylie Rhodes on Monday night. Pinnix, Cates, and Rhodes all coached with Orr at Noxapater High School.
Pinnix will coach the defensive line, while also assisting with the offensive line, while Cates will be the defensive coordinator and Rhodes the offensive coordinator.

MSU WOMEN TO PLAY IN HOF CHALLENGE
Mississippi State women's basketball has been selected as one of four teams to compete in the 2020 Hall of Fame Women's Challenge on Nov. 28-29 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., as announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs open the tournament on Saturday with a matchup against Maine, while UConn and Quinnipiac make up the other side of the bracket. The winners of the two contests will play in the championship on Sunday, while the losing teams will compete in the third-place game. Game times and television details will be released at later date.
"I'm really excited to be a part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Challenge," said head coach Nikki McCray-Penson. "We will be going up against some great competition in Maine, Quinnipiac and UConn. I'm really looking forward to the event."
Mississippi State owns a 4-1 combined record all time against the field. The Bulldogs are a perfect 3-0 against Maine while boasting a 1-1 record against UConn. MSU and Quinnipiac have never met on the hardwood.

HCC INDUCTEES HONORED
Holmes Community College inducted its Class of 2020 into the school’s sports Hall of Fame earlier this month, with former Kosciusko High School baseball standout Will Browning being one of those.
Joining Browning, who was featured in an article in last week’s Star-Herald, are Ronald Aldy, women’s basketball; Keith Lennell Gray, basketball; Lewis Quinby Morgan, coach/athletic director; and Michael Jacob Newton, soccer.
The ceremony was held virtually and the event can be viewed on the school’s sports website.

EMCC CHEER TRYOUTS SET
East Mississippi Community College will be conducting virtual cheer and mascot tryouts for the upcoming 2020-21 academic year during a week-long span through Friday.
Video submissions are due to EMCC head cheerleading coach Laura Posey via email (lposey@eastms.edu) by 5 p.m. on Friday. Entries for EMCC’s upcoming virtual cheer and mascot tryouts are open to graduating male and female high school seniors and college transfer students with eligibility remaining.
Videos should consist of challenging standing skills and running tumbling passes as well as advanced stunts, as outlined in tryout guidelines available on EMCC’s athletics website, www.EMCCAthletics.com. Submitted videos for the mascot tryout can be from this past sports season or newly generated with an at-home skit.
Along with submitting a tryout video via email by 5 p.m. on Friday, EMCC cheer and mascot tryout participants must also send in proof of admission into East Mississippi Community College or indicate what method was used in applying to EMCC.
