Kosciusko running back Zavier Bobo Miller injured his shoulder during the summer, but Whippets head coach Kelly Causey said he is still hopeful to have his running back before the end of the regular season. Causey said he hopes to have him back by his team’s Oct. 18 road contest against Leake Central, but “nothing is set in stone.”

NOXAPATER, NW TOP REGION 2-1A STANDINGS
Just two weeks into Region 2-1A play, there only two teams who are unscathed in league play. Both Noxapater and Nanih Waiya are at the top of the standings at 2-0, while West Lowndes, Hamilton, French Camp Academy, and Tupelo Christian are 1-1. Vardaman, Smithville, and Okolona are all three winless.
Noxapater is ranked No. 1 in MHSAA Class 1A according to Mississippi Gridiron, while Smithville is No. 2, Lumberton No. 3, Nanih Waiya No. 4 and Hollandale-Simmons No. 5.

JOHNSON STEPS UP FOR FCA
French Camp’s C.J. Johnson, a 5-10, 172-pound quarterback and defensive back, had his best offensive game of the season in a 59-44 loss to Tupelo Christian. Johnson completed eight passes for 142 yards and one touchdown and ran 16 times for 120 yards and two TDs.

LADY WHIPPETS DELIVER PUMPKINS
Lady Whippet volleyball players gathered last week to hand out pumpkins to businesses at the Kosciusko town square. Lady Whippet volleyball coach Lauren Peresich said 11 girls showed up for the event.
The pumpkins will be distributed and used as canvases for aspiring artists who will compete in a pumpkin drawing contest.

The Jaguars of Holmes County Central pieced up their third consecutive win of the season with a 27-14 home wine over Memphis Central on Friday night. This week HCC, which started the season at 2-0, will being Region 2-1A play when they play host to Neshoba Central on Friday night.

Tavion Rimmer, a 5-10, 195-pound junior running back and middle linebacker for McAdams, had a strong game on offensive and defense in the Bulldogs’ 36-7 win over Loyd Star. He carried six times for 26 yards, had a 40-yard reception from his cousin Johntavis Rimmer and was credited with 22 tackles.

HILLCREST SNAPS
29-GAME SKID
Hillcrest Christian School removed itself from the top of list of Mississippi high schools with the lowest football losing streak as they traveled to Louisiana on Friday night and took a 15-0 win over River Oaks to snap their skid at 29 games.
“My guys have been working very hard and I felt good that they were finally able to taste victory,” said Hillcrest head coach Shay Hodge, a former standout at Ole Miss.

LOUISVILLE HOSTING NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS
Louisville High School will be celebrating its nine MHSAA State Football Championships Friday night during its 7 p.m. home match-up with Yazoo City.
Members of the championship teams from 1985, 1986, 1991, 1993, 1995, 2007, 2008, 2013 and 2018 are invited to take part in the festivities at R.E. Hinze Stadium.
Last Friday night Louisville celebrated the 2019 Lady Wildcats basketball team that won the Class 4A State Championship.

TROJANS SET TO VISIT BENTON
Central Holmes Christian School will hit the road this week as they go to Benton Academy on Friday.
Benton is 2-4 on the season with wins over Porter’s Chapel (28-0) and River Oaks (19-14). They have losses to Newton County Academy (33-0), Carroll Academy (51-12), Winona Christian (39-7) and Sylva Bay (28-15).
“We needed a win and that helped us feel better about ourselves,” Crowder said. “At this point, we have a bunch of one-game seasons. We are concentrating on what we have to do to win the next week and don’t care about anything after that. We need to build on the success we had last week. Benton plays hard and do a lot of things that give us trouble. I think if we fight like we did last week, I feel good about our chances.”

CCHS VOLLEYBALL
8-0 IN LEAGUE PLAY
The Choctaw County High School volleyball team improved to 8-0 in Class I, Region 4 with two victories last week. The Lady Chargers defeated West Lowndes 25-10, 25-12, 25-15 and Aberdeen 25-9, 25-15, 21-25, 25-12.
CCHS was set to play Noxapater Tuesday and has a home match with Nanih Waiya Thursday. Both are region matches against teams that the Lady Chargers swept in previous matches.

MAIS-MHSAA MATCHUPS
The MAIS now holds a 16-4 edge over MHSAA teams in matchups between the two prep organizations this season.
There are two matchups this week between the two associations highlighted by a showdown of two teams that are heavy favorites to win state championships as 2A favorite Taylorsville travels to Flowood to face Jackson Prep, seven-time defending state champion and one of the favorites in MAIS Class 6A. The other matchup is Jackson Academy at Pelahatchie.

MHSAA CLASS 2A SHOWDOWN
The Wolverines of East Webster will face their toughest test of the season so far as they host unbeaten Union on Friday night in a showdown of a pair of MHSAA Class 2A contenders.
Union (4-0) has wins over Choctaw Central (42-21), Nanih Waiya (35-24), Eupora (42-9) and Newton County (42-15).
“This will be the third consecutive big game we have played in and I hope our kids appreciate that,” EW head coach Ron Price said. “A lot of kids don’t get to experience games like that. I think Union is one of the top 2A schools in the state. Hopefully, we will stay focused and go out and give our best effort on Friday night.”
