Weather permitting, springs sports will hit full swing this week. Rain is expected to visit the Attala County area most of this week, but the full impact of the wet weather on local sports will not be known until Saturday comes to a close.
The Kosciusko baseball team was set to play in Pearl on Tuesday and Thursday of this week, facing Jackson Academy and Greenville respectively. The Whippets' scheduled home opener is Saturday against Grenada, with varsity starting at 1 p.m. Kosy then hosts Ridgeland on Tuesday and West Point on Feb. 28.
The Lady Whippets hosted a fast-pitch jamboree last weekend and were set to open the official season with the Kosciusko Classic this Friday and Saturday. The event is set to open Friday at 6 with the Lady Whippets entertaining Choctaw County. The Lady Chargers of CCHS are coached by former Kosy standout Lauren Tharp Fancher.
Saturday's schedule has Kosy and Cleveland Central playing at 11 a.m., followed by a junior high match-up between the two schools at 12:30 p.m. Cleveland Central and South Pontotoc match-up at 1:45 p.m., followed by Choctaw County and South Pontotoc at 3:30 p.m. The Kosy and South Pontotoc junior varsity teams are set to close out the day at 5 p.m.
The Kosciusko tennis team opens action Tuesday at Forest High School, while hosting Louisville on Feb. 28 at 4 p.m.
ETHEL
The Ethel baseball team was set to open this weekend with a road trip to Lexington to face Central Holmes on Friday, then host the Trojans the next day. The Tigers then host Winona Christian on Tuesday and J.Z. George and Kirk on Saturday, March 2.
The Lady Tigers are set to take part in the Neshoba Central Classic on Saturday, before visiting Philadelphia on Monday and then hosting Union on Tuesday. They are entered in the Union Tournament on Saturday, March 2.
MCADAMS
The Bulldogs are not scheduled to play their first baseball game until they visit Amanda Elzy on Feb. 27. McAdams has nine road dates set before playing its first home game against Amanda Elzy on April 11.
The Bulldogs play in the same region as Ethel, Nanih Waiya, Noxapater and French Camp.
FRENCH CAMP
The baseball team was scheduled to open at home Thursday against Winona, then pay a visit to the Tigers two days later. FCA will then visit Calhoun City on Monday and host Winona Christian on March 1 before visiting Winston Academy on March 2.
The Lady Panthers were set to host Louisville on Tuesday and J.Z. George on Thursday of this week. FCA will take part in the Winona Classic on Saturday, before visiting Sebastopol Tuesday and Louisville on Feb. 28, before hosting Columbus on March 1.
CENTRAL HOLMES
The Trojans opened the season with games against Humphreys and Tri-County last week, before tangling with Ethel this coming Friday and Saturday.
Central Holmes is then set to visit Sharkey Issaquena Academy on Monday and Pillow Academy on Feb. 28 before hosting Sharkey-Issaquena on March 1.
