The McAdams Lady Bulldogs (22-8) earned another berth into the MHSAA Class 1A State Championship game against Pine Grove (33-3) on Thursday at 1 p.m. after defeating Blue Mountain in the quarterfinals and Leake County in the semifinals last Thursday and Monday
respectively. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Blue Mountain in overtime 44-43 and crushed Leake County 59-32 earning the championship berth.
“I am really proud of how the girls have played and I feel like they are playing better now than they have all season,” said McAdams head coach Michael Huffman.
In last Thursday night’s quarterfinal matchup with Blue Mountain, the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 13-7 first quarter lead. Blue Mountain climbed back into the contest by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 10-4 in the second quarter to force a tie into halftime. The Lady Bulldogs took a 32-28 lead after three quarters of play, but Blue Mountain fought to tie the contest at 51-51 to end regulation. The Lady Bulldogs outscored Blue Mountain in overtime 5-2 to take the 56-53 win.
The leaders for the Lady Bulldogs were Kiara Brown with four points, 10 rebounds, six assists, one blocked shot and two steals; Ke’Mara Atterberry with 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals; Jakyra Young with 20 points, nine rebounds and one assist; Kneisha Erving with 12 points, 16 rebounds and one steal; Aaliyah Lusk with six points and two rebounds and Haley Perteet with four points and six rebounds.
In this past Monday night’s 59-32 thumping of the Lady Gators, McAdams took control early and took a quick 16-6 first quarter lead. The Lady Bulldogs took a 31-15 lead into the half and cruised to a 27-point win.
The leaders for the Lady Bulldogs were Brown with seven points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal; Atterberry with 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals; Erving with four points and six rebounds; Young with 17 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals and Perteet with eight points and two rebounds.
