Ethel had two individual champions and finished third in the team competition at the 1A state powerlifting meet Saturday at the Mississippi Coliseum.
Senior Kendal Dotson repeated as champion in the 148 pound weight class and sophomore Luther Clark won at 198.
Dotson had lifts of 405 in the squat, 195 in the bench press and 505 in the dead lift, for a total of 1,105.
Clark totaled 1,345 with 525 in the squat, 235 in the bench press and 585 in the deadlift.
For both it was a personal best.
Clark won gold this year after being runner-up the previous two years, “Whatever my coach (Corey Parish) put on the bar, I didn't ask any questions; I just did it,” he said.
Dotson finished first with a 90-pounds edge over runner-up Corbin Ainsworth after being second at the South State meet. He was recruited as a lifter by Parish, who is also an assistant coach in football. Dotson quarterbacked Ethel last fall.
Ethel totaled 25 points, trailing Sacred Heart with 29 and Leake County with 28.
Other lifters for Ethel were seventh grader Kentrell Dotson, second at 123; junior Lanarkes Davis, third at 242; senior Akeem Erving, fourth at 220.
McAdams sophomore Lewis Latiker qualified for the meet at 308, but was unable to participate due to an injury.
