Both the Ethel boys and girls would go 1-1 in the Region 5-1A division tournament at French Camp last week.
Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers entered the MHSAA Class 1A playoffs this week.
The Lady Tigers (13-11) hosted West Lowndes on Monday night in the first round, while the Tigers (12-12) travelled to Hamilton on Tuesday night.

D'Ayres Merritt would have a double-double with 16 points along with 13 rebounds for Ethel, but the Pirates came away with the win over the Tigers in the first round of the Region 5-1A tournament.
Izik Stewart also had a double-double for the Tigers adding 10 points, 11 rebounds and also had four block shots. Akeem Erving had nine points and 11 rebounds. Daquannay Dotson chipped in nine points and nine rebounds.

Merritt would have a game-high 23 points along with nine steals as the Tigers ran past the Panthers in the consolation game of the Region 5-1A division tournament and to clinch the No. 3 seed.
Saccario Merritt added 10 points for Ethel, while Stewart chipped in 6 points and seven rebounds. D'Vontrae Felton had eight points for the Tigers.

Akilah Erving would pile up a triple-double as the Lady Tigers ran past the Lady Panthers in the first round of the Region 5-1A tournament.
Erving would have a game-high 38 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.
Dejah Merritt added 18 points along with four steals, while Chiquita Merritt chipped in 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Erving would have yet another double-double with game-high 37 points along with 21 rebounds and five steals, but the Lady Bulldogs outlasted the Lady Tigers in the championship game of the Region 5-1A tournament.
Chiquita Merritt also had a double-double adding 19 points and 11 rebounds for Ethel.
