The Central Holmes Trojans got a warmup for the upcoming Class AA playoffs with a run-rule win over Tunica Academy last week.
The Trojans battered Tunica 17-5 in their only action last week.
Central Holmes improves to 13-3 on the season and will face Manchester in the first round of the Class AA playoffs. That series will start on Tuesday, April 29, with a single game at
Manchester and return to Central Holmes on Thursday, May 1, with a 4 p.m. contest. An if-necessary game would follow if the two teams split the first two games.
Central Holmes 17, Tunia 5
The Trojans got in a much-needed game last week as they pounded Tunica by 12 runs on Tuesday.
Central Holmes scored one run in the top of the first before Tunica responded with two to take a 2-1 lead. Central Holmes then took control with eight in the third and one in the fourth to lead 10-2. Tunica added three runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 10-5 before Central Holmes finished off with seven runs in the seventh.
Central Holmes had 14 hits in the contest and drew 11 walks, include five free passes to Eli Steen. Nathan Taylor led the Trojans at the plate as he was 3-for-4 with four runs scored while Alex Arnold was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Wes Hudson was 2-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs while Barrett Fondren was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Noah Steen was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Landon Rawson doubled, scored twice and had three RBIs while Peyton Killebrew doubled, scored twice and had two RBIs.
Rawson started on the mound and pitched two innings, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two. Noah Steen pitched two innings and gave up three runs on four hits while Wes Hudson finished out the game with three scoreless innings as he gave up just one hit and struck out five.
