The Central Holmes Trojans should be well rested as they prepare for the Class AA playoffs to begin next week.
The Trojans played just one game last week as they beat Humphreys Academy 11-4.
Central Holmes is now 12-1 on the season and will face Tunica on Tuesday before they begin the Class AA playoffs. The Trojans are the No. 1 seed out of their district and will face either Manchester, Tri-County or Benton in the first-round of the playoffs which will begin on Tuesday in a best two out of three format.
The Trojans scored eight runs in the first two innings and took a seven-run win over Humphreys on Thursday.
Humphreys scored two runs in the top of the first before Central Holmes responded with one run in the first and three in the second to go up 8-2. Humphreys added two in the fourth to cut the score to 8-4 before Central Holmes finished out with three runs in the sixth.
The Trojans had 10 hits in the contest, led by Alex Arnold who was 3-for-3 with a double, home run, two runs scored and five RBIs. Landon Rawson was also 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs while Nathan Taylor was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Peyton Killebrew walked twice and scored twice while Josh Hayer singled and scored a run and had an RBI.
Jackson Ellis started on the mound and pitched three innings and gave up one hit but walked four while striking out three to give up two unearned runs. Rawson pitched one inning but struggled with five walks as he gave up two runs while Wes Hudson finished up with three innings and gave up one hit while striking out six.
