The Central Holmes Trojans continued its impressive play this past week with a pair of key district wins.
The Trojans opened the week on Tuesday with a 16-4 win over Oak Hill an then finished off the series with an 8-4 win over the Raiders on Thursday.
The Trojans, 7-1 and 4-0 in district play on the year, will now play rival Winona Christian in a key district series. The Trojans will host the Stars on Tuesday and then travel to Winona on Thursday in their only scheduled games this week.
Central Holmes 8, Oak Hill 4
The Trojans completed a two-game sweep of Oak Hill on Thursday with a four-run win.
Central Holmes scored two in first, four in the second and one in the third and fifth innings. Oak Hill scored one in the fifth and three in the sixth.
The Trojans had nine hits as Nathan Taylor was 2-for-3 with a double and triple with two runs scored and three RBIs. Noah Steen was also 2-for-3 while Alex Arnold had a solo home run. Landon Rawson doubled and drove in a run while Peyton Killebrew doubled and scored two runs. Wes Hudson also had two walks while Josh Haymer singled and drove in two runs.
Hudson got the start on the mound and pitched five inning, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five. Haymer got one out as he gave up one hit and walked two. Noah Steen pitched 1 2/3 innings and picked up the save as he struck out three.
Central Holmes 16, Oak Hill 4
The Trojans banged out nine hits but took advantage of 11 errors to take a run-rule win over the Raiders on Tuesday.
Central Holmes scored two in the first, three in the second, five in the fourth and six in the fifth. Oak Hill scored one in the third and six in the fifth.
Peyton Killebrew was 3-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBIs to lead the Trojans at the plate while Landon Rawson was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Nathan Taylor scored three runs while Eli Steen doubled, scored twice and had two RBIs. Wes Hudson, Alex Arnold and Barrett Fondren each walked twice. Killebrew and Luke Smith each walked twice.
Rawson got the start on the mound and pitched all five innings, giving up four runs on two hits and three walks while striking out 10.
Pillow 21, Central Holmes 15
The Trojans lost a slugfest to Class AAAA power Pillow Academy on Monday of last week.
Pillow led 6-1 heading into the fourth when Central Holmes scored six run to take a 6-7 lead. But Pillow answered with seven in the fifth, two in the sixth and six in the seventh. Central Holmes kept it close with one in the fifth, five in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Central Holmes had just five hits but took advantage of 12 walks and eight errors by the Mustangs.
Eli Steen was the only multiple hitter, going 2-for-4 with a double. Landon Rawson tripled and drove in three runs while Alex Arnold walked twice and had three RBIs. Peyton Killebrew and Josh Haymer each walked three times and scored three times while walked twice and scored twice. Noah Steen also had scored twice in the game.
