After a 15-0 whitewash in game one against Tri-County Academy in the Class AA semifinals on Monday, Central Holmes responded with a better effort on Tuesday.
But it was not enough.
Tri-County took an early lead and held on to take a 9-4 win over the Trojans and advance to the Class AA championship series.
Central Holmes finishes the season with a 15-7 record.
Tri-County will take on Brookhaven this week in the Class AA championship series. Brookhaven swept Newton County Academy 15-0 and 4-3 to advance to the title series.
Tri-County 9, Central Holmes 4
The Rebels built a 5-2 lead early and put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a five-run win over the Trojans last Tuesday.
Central Holmes scored two in the top of the first on a two-run home run by Landon Rawson but Tri-County answered with three runs in the bottom of the first to go back up 3-2. The Rebels added two in the third and one in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead. Central Holmes added two runs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 6-4 but Tri-County scored three in the bottom of the sixth to take the win.
Tri-County outhit Central Holmes 12-5 in the contest. Nathan Taylor was 3-for-4 while Rawson homered and drove in two runs. Peyton Killebrew also singled and scored a run while Noah Steen walked twice and scored a run.
