The Central Holmes basketball teams will get almost two weeks off for Christmas.
On Friday, Dec. 28, the Lady Trojans will take on Newton County Academy at 4 p.m.. The Trojans will take on the Generals at 6:30 p.m.
Then on Saturday, Dec. 29, Central Holmes will play Calhoun at 2 p.m. while the boys team will take on Calhoun at 4:30 p.m.
“We are actually playing really well, I’m kind of sad that we are taking a break,” Central Holmes girls coach Niki Edwards said. “I don’t think we have put it all together yet. I seems like I have had a different person leading us in scoring every game. I haven’t had every one hitting at the same time, that’s the only thing.”
Edwards said her squad practiced this past week and will have a short practice before the Benton Tournament.
“I don’t try to do too much during the holidays,” Edwards said. “It’s a small school and our kids play a lot of sports. They need the rest. They don’t get a lot of breaks.”
After returning from the Christmas break, Central Holmes will travel to Manchester Academy on Thursday, Jan. 3 before they travel to Oak Hill to kick off a January filled with division basketball games
“We have five losses but I think we have played a good schedule,” Edwards said. “I think we are ready for district play."
