Will Carter's goal of receiving an offer to play junior college football might have received a boost from his participation at a kicking camp at Austin, Texas.
Following a strong senior season kicking and punting for Kosciusko and his participation in a camp at Atlanta in August, Carter was among 110 high school kickers invited to the 2021 Kicking World Showcase held last weekend at Del Valle High School in Austin.
Carter was perfect on 38 extra point attempts for the Whippets this year, booted three field goals, the longest from 42 yards, and averaged 39.6 yards punting.
At the camp in Atlanta, he won the field goal kicking competition by splitting the uprights from 52 yards, resulting in his invitation to the showcase.
“He earned the invitation earlier this season by having a 'wow' performance at our camps competing against over 1,200 HS football kickers during our 2021 camp tour which took us to 22 major cities and 30 states,” according to a press release from Kicking World.
He was top eight in field goal kicking at Austin by making two kicks from 35 yards, two from 40 yards and one each from 45, 50 and 55 yards before missing from 60 and 65.
Carter has not received an offer, but there has been interest from junior colleges in the state, including Holmes, East Mississippi and Copiah-Lincoln.
“No one has offered me yet, but I hope they will sometime soon,” said the KHS player.
His ultimate goal is to follow up junior college at a four-year school.
Kosciusko Coach Casey Orr is surprised that Carter has not yet received any offers.
“I think they will come. I hope they will come,” Orr said.
Carter enjoyed his time in Austin and was especially impressed with Del Valle High School.
“They have a Jumbotron the size of the Mississippi State Jumbotron. There's an indoor football field and a weight room the size of the Kosciusko cafeteria,” he said of the venue.
Carter is a three-sport athlete, with soccer in the winter and baseball in the spring. In a 7-0 soccer victory over Louisville last week, he displayed his kicking ability in that sport with three goals and two assists.
