The French Camp Panthers won their two games last week, beating Eupora 59-51 and Vardaman 49-38.
“I thought we played really well at times against Eupora,” French Camp coach Robert Leathers said. “We jumped out to a big lead and they had a guy get hot in the third quarter. It got close but I never really thought we were in jeopardy of losing. Against Vardaman, we came out really well against them as well. We only play five or six players and I thought we got tired in the second half and it was a real struggle. It was a close game until the end.”
Against Eupora, the Panthers got 17 points from Macon Bentley and 16 points from Ethan Chessek. Nick Winters, Cody Perry and Ethan Wright each had eight points apiece.
Against Vardaman, the Panthers got 15 points from Bentley and 12 from Perry. Gavin Fox and Chessek each had seven points apiece.
French Camp is off for the Christmas break and won’t start back until Jan. 4 when they take on Noxapater.
“We don’t play anything over the break,” Leathers said. “We will practice some that last week with the ones who are here. I like where we are at. We don’t have a lot of depth but the kids are liking it and are a good team together. They play really unselfish and have good ball movement. They are not as talented as most teams they play but they get after it on defense.”
