The Kosciusko boys won the Region 4-4A powerlifting meet and qualified six lifters for the North State meet.
“We had a lot of success,” said coach Jonathan Cates.
The Whippets had three lifters who won their weight classes, one second, two third, two fourth and one fifth. The top three in each weight class qualified for North State.
The qualifiers:
Nathan Hill, first at 114, totaling 425 pounds for the bench press, squat and dead lift.
Michael Sims, first at 198, 1,040 pounds.
Javen Mallett, first at 220, 1,285 pounds.
Preston Moore, second at 242, 1,210 pounds.
River Keith, third at 148, 880 pounds.
Eli Kemp, third at 181, 1,125 pounds.
Latavion Stephens was fourth at 220, J.C. Miller fourth at 275 and J.J. Ashford fifth at 148.
The North State meet is scheduled for March 4 at Ripley High School.
“We have two weeks so we are going to really harp on our fundamentals. Make sure we don't make any dumb mistakes,” Cates said.
Girls
The Lady Whippets qualified two lifters for the March 3 North State meet at Itwamaba AHS.
Trinity Goodman was second at 165 and La'Joclyn Seawood third at 220.
