Mississippi High School Activities Association football games will begin at 7:30 p.m. during August and September due to the heat.
MHSAA executive director Rickey Neaves said there will be a water timeout each quarter at the six-minute mark “as long as it doesn't break the momentum of one team.”
Kickoff will revert to 7 p.m. in October.
The MHSA website includes guidelines for the first 14 days of football and cross country preseason practice. July 25 was the first day for cross country practice. August 8 will be the first day for football.
During the first five days, athletes may not participate in more than one practice per day and total practice time cannot exceed three hours per day. For the sixth through 14th days, double practice days must be followed by single practice days,
During the first two days, the only equipment permitted at football practice is helmets.
