Kosciusko placed 14th at the MHSAA 4A state cross country meet at Choctaw Trails.
“We didn't have our best run,” said Coach Greg Cooper before adding, “They grew throughout the year, each and everyone.”
Jorge Orduna led the Whippets, as he has in every meet this year, finishing 19th of 144 runners with a time of 18:04.48. Cooper said Orduna experienced a cramp during the race.
Avery Nicholson, an eighth grader was 73rd in 20:11.87, followed by Daniel Van 109th (22:04.68), Grayson Blaylock 113th (22:14.89), Christian Covarrubias 123rd (22:51.66), Lem Whitcomb 124th (22:03.54) and Cooper Sparks 130th (23:20.14).
John Gant placed 42nd at the state meet as a freshman a year ago but was unable to run this year due to an ankle injury. Cooper expects to have him back in 2022.
Senatobia edged five-time defending champion Corinth for the team title 46-52, even though Corinth had the better average time for its first five runners at 17:34 to 17:43 for Senatobia. Pontotoc senior Cooper Palmer was the individual winner in 16:12.93.
Sophomore Emma Rhodes, Kosciusko’s only runner in the girls’ race, was 69th in a field of 130 with a clocking of 25:24.30.
