The Kosciusko tennis team split its first six matches of the season with victories over French Camp 5-2, Leake Central 7-0 and Winona 6-1, and losses to East Webster 4-3, Grenada 5-2 and Starkville 7-0. Leake Central is the only Region 4-4A match.
MHSAA tennis has coed teams with one girl and one boy in singles, two boys and two girls doubles and mixed doubles. Competitors may play in only one match.
Sophomore Kayden Tyler has been the most successful performer playing girls singles with victories against Leake Central, Winona, French Camp, East Webster and Grenada. Sophomore Daniel Van is 4-2 at boys singles with victories against Leake Central, Winona, East Webster and Grenada.
The No. 1 boys doubles team of Thomas Sims and Alexis Hernandez won against Leake Central, Winona and French Camp. At No. 2 boys doubles, Josh Gibson played with Thomas Pettit in the win over French Camp, but with his twin brother Jeremy in victories against Leake Central and Winona.
The No. 1 girls doubles team of Olivia Cockroft and Kayla Anderson were victorious against East Webster, Leake Central and Winona. Kendall Chunn and Klara Tran won No. 2 girls doubles against French Camp. Chunn teamed with Akeelah Hunt to win No. 2 doubles against Leake Central and Winona.
Jeremy Gibson and Hunt won mixed doubles French Camp. Against Leake Central and Winona, Elizabeth Orduna and Rodrigo Arvizu were victorious.
Kosciusko played Northeast Lauderdale Tuesday and Louisville Wednesday in region matches. Louisville was a guaranteed victory because Louisville does not have any boys. The only matches were girls singles and the two girls doubles. The other four are forfeit for Kosciusko.
