Kosciusko baseball had a rough spring break with three losses. The Whippets were blanked on Wednesday by Madison Central 10-0 and Bayou Academy 8-0 and were edged by New Hope 4-3 Saturday.
Coach Cole McBride said the New Hope game was a good bounce back after the two shutouts. “The pitchers threw well. I had multiple guys throwing because it was Saturday going into division week. We played pretty good defense.”
Kosciusko tied the score at 3-3 on a single by Cooper Black in the fifth. But two walks, a wild pitch and a single produced the game winning run for New Hope in the sixth.
“The guys played hard. Played a lot better than they did on Wednesday,” McBride said “We made some adjustments, but we didn't do quite enough to get it done.”
The Whippets had opportunities against Madison Central and Bayou, but stranded 14 runners. Madison Central jumped on Kosciusko with five runs in the second and three Jaguar pitchers held the Whippets to three hits.
It was a similar story in the Bayou game as the Colts scored three runs in the first and three more in the second. Reed Holman pitched a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts.
Kosciusko pitchers gave up 10 walks.
The good news is none of the losses were region games. The Whippets led 4-4A with a 4-0 record prior to a game Tuesday with Louisville. The teams will meet again Friday at Kosciusko, and the Whippets will be at East Webster Saturday in a non region game.
