Jacob Nunn pitched a no-hitter and Larson Fancher hit a three-run homer as Kosciusko began the 4A playoffs with 5-0 victory over Pontotoc Tuesday. The Whippets will attempt to sweep the best-of-three series at Pontotoc Friday. If a third game is needed, it will be at Kosciusko Saturday at 5 p.m.
Nunn had nine strikeouts and walked four. The only time he was in trouble was the fifth when two walks and a fielder's choice grounder put runners at first and third with one out. But he got out of the inning with two strikeouts.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third. After the first two batters were retired, Landon Wallace singled, Ty Ramage walked and Fancher followed with his homer over the right field fence.
The Whippets added two runs in the fifth when Fancher and Bennie Powell scored on passed balls.
It was Nunn's second straight shutout. He blanked Newton County 4-0 one week earlier.
