Kosciusko tennis had two wins and a narrow loss last week, and in the process officially clinched a spot in the 4A playoffs. The Whippets defeated Louisville and Ridgeland and lost to Eupora.
The victory over Louisville gave Kosciusko a 3-0 record in Region 4-4A, assuring no worse than second in the region. Officially, the score was 7-0, although only three matches were contested. Because Louisville does not have any boys on its team, boys singles, both boys doubles and mixed doubles were forfeits.
In the matches played, Kosciusko had victories by Kayden Tyler in girls singles, Olivia Cockroft and Kayla Anderson at No. 1 girls doubles and Kendall Chunn and Akeleh Hunt at No 2 girls doubles.
Kosciusko defeated Ridgeland 6-1, the only loss coming in No. 1 boys doubles. Wins were by Tyler in girls singles, Daniel Van in boys singles, both girls doubles teams, Josh and Jeremy Gibson in boys No. 2 doubles and the mixed doubles team of Elizabeth Orduna and Rodrigo Aruizu.
Kosciusko was edged by Eupora 4-3, with the match decided when Orduna and Aruzu dropped a tiebreaker in mixed doubles. Victories were by Tyler at girls singles in a tiebreaker and the two boys doubles team, Thomas Sims and Alexis Hernandez at No. 1, also in a tiebreaker, and the Gibson brothers at No. 2.
Kosciusko and West Lauderdale played Tuesday with first place in the region on the line. The loser will host the third place team from 2-4A when 4A playoffs begin April 3. The winner draws an opening round bye and will play at home April 6 against the winner of a match between the runnerup in 1-A and third place n 3-4A.
