The Ethel baseball team won two out of three games this past week.
After dropping a 6-1 decision to Kosciusko last Tuesday, the Tigers beat East Webster on Friday. They finished the week with an 8-5 win over Winona on Saturday.
Kosciusko 6, Ethel 1
The Whippets scored five runs in the top of the eighth to break open an extra-inning game on Tuesday.
Kosy scored one run in the second while Ethel scored one in the fourth. But in the extra frame, the Whippets scored five runs as they used three hits an error, a hit batter and three walks.
Ethel was held to two hits as Wes Bishop was 2-for-4.
Colin White started on the mound and pitched five innings and gave up one run on three hits and two walks while striking out eight. Gabe Cain pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two. Bishop came in relief of Cain and got the last out.
Ethel 7, East Webster 6
The Tigers used a late charge and took a one-run win over the Wolverines, despite getting only three hits in the contest.
East scored one in the second and two in the third to go up 3-0. Ethel answered with one in the third and two in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3. East Webster scored one in the fifth, sixth and seventh while Ethel score one in the fifth and took the lead for good with three runs in the sixth.
Wes Bishop homered and drove in four runs while Brady White scored three runs.
Bishop pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five. Hunter Hutchison pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on four hits while K.T. Adams pitched the last 2/3 of an inning.
Ethel 8, Winona 5
Ethel took an early lead and held on to take a three-run win over Winona on Saturday.
Ethel scored five in the second and two in the fourth to lead 7-2. Winona added three in the sixth while Ethel scored one in the seventh.
Ethel had five hits and took advantage of five walks and four errors. Colin White doubled, walked twice and scored twice while Lukas Gowan was hit twice and scored twice.
Gabe Cain started and pitched three innings and gave up two runs on two walks and three hits while striking out six. Adams pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up two run-on three hits while striking out five. Eli Ramage and Colin White each pitched to finish out the game.
To start the season, the Ethel Tigers kicked off with a pair of wins.
The Tigers beat Scott Central 9-4 on and then beat Benton Academy 11-0 on Tuesday.
Ethel 11, Benton 0
The Tigers used a big fourth period and took a run-rule win over the Raiders on Tuesday.
Ethel scored two in the first, one in the third and eight in the fourth.
The Tigers had six hits as Colin White was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Gabe Cain doubled and dove in three runs while Hunter Hutchison also doubled. Brady White scored three runs while Wes Bishop had two RBIs. Ethan Bishop scored two runs as well.
Cain started on the mound and pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up one hit but walked four while striking out four. Bishop pitched 1 1/3 innings and struck out two. Hutchison pitched the last inning and gave up one hit while striking out one.
Ethel 10, Scott Central 4
The Tigers broke open a tie game with eight runs in the fifth inning and took a six-run win on Monday in the season opener.
The score was tied 2-2 after four innings before Ethel scored eight runs in the fifth inning. Scott added two runs in the seventh for the final margin.
Ethel outhit Scott Central 6-4 and took advantage of six errors and took advantage of six walks. Brady White was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Gabe Cain doubled and scored three runs while Kaden Adams scored two runs.
White started on the mound and pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on one hit and one walk while striking out six. Gabe Cain, West Bishop and Colin White finished out pitching for the Tigers.
