Following Kosciusko’s third state championship, Tony Terry has been honored as Mississippi’s softball Coach of the Year by the Mississippi High School Activities Association.
“I am very humbled to be recognized as the MHSAA softball coach of the year,” he said. “I am thankful for all the help coach (Wade) Moore and coach (Allison) Johnson provided to make my job easier. I get to work with a great group of young ladies who give their all every day as we chase our goals. Everything we do is a group effort so I would like to share this effort with them.”
A Sept. 2 memo stated, “At the beginning of each school year MHSAA partners with the National Federation of High Schools to announce a Coach of the Year based on results from the previous school year. The MHSAA/NFHS embraces the opportunity to recognize coaches and the impact each has on student athletes across this great state.”
Twenty-one Mississippi coaches were chosen for their sports.
Terry has a 397-116 record in 18 years as Kosciusko softball coach, with 4A championships in 2018, 2021 and 2022. The Lady Whippets capped off a 34-4-1 season for the most recent championship with a 10-1 victory over Sumrall in the decisive game of the championship series at the University of Southern Mississippi. It is a school record for wins in a season.
