The Kosciusko School District is busy this summer updating the district’s facilities.
The district’s superintendent, Dr. Zach Bost, said during the June School Board meeting that a construction crew started work last week.
“Our performance lights should be going up, and that’s at our baseball, softball and football fields, so that is exciting,” he said. “The junior high roof is going up next. There will be a series of climate control operations going in at all the schools. We’re really updating and modernizing all of our schools.”
The district has not yet hired a softball coach to replace Tony Terry, the longtime Lady Whippets coach. Terry’s departure was announced last month, and he will take over as softball coach at Central Holmes Christian School.
“We are currently still searching for a softball coach,” said Bost. “I think it’s extremely important that we give the absolute best effort for those girls. They deserve it, and they’ve had a lot of success in that program, so we’re doing our absolute best.”
The district’s principals also talked about updates to the handbook and how those affected each school.
The biggest change was allowing students at the junior high and high school to wear shorts.
Shorts are limited to 2 inches above the knee, and all shorts must be khaki or denim material.
There are no major changes at the Lower and Upper Elementary schools, although the principals clarified that the wearing of bras only effects older students in Upper Elementary if they are needed. If an issue arises, a female staff member will talk to the student.
