Deborah Bryant, wife of Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant, received a warm welcome at Kosciusko Lower Elementary last week when she arrived to greet children and read to Pre-K students as part of her “Read Across Mississippi” campaign.
After greeting students and staffers, Bryant headed to the classroom where she urged children to read.
“Read Across Mississippi” began in 2014, and since that time, the percentage of third-graders who can read at grade level has increased from 55 to 90 percent.
Bryant hopes to read to students at a school in each of Mississippi’s 82 counties.
