The Winona Christian basketball teams finished out their district play last week with a sweep of Central Holmes.
The Lady Stars finished district play undefeated as they took a 79-47 win over the Lady Trojans while the Stars took a 62-37 win over the Trojans to secure the No. 1 seed in the upcoming district tournament.
Winona Christian will end the regular season on Tuesday at Columbus Christian in a makeup game from last week.
The Winona Christian girls (25-3) are the No. 1 seed going into the district tournament and will play on Friday at 6:30 p.m. They will play the winner of the Greenville St. Joseph and Indianola game on Thursday. The Central Holmes girls will play Carroll on Friday in a 4 p.m. contest.The girls championship game is set for Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
The Winona Christian boys (22-1) are the No. 1 seed coming out of the regular season and will play on Friday at 7:45 p.m. against the winner of the Central Holmes and Indianola game. The championship game is set for Saturday at 4:45 p.m. The Central Holmes boys will play Indianola on Thursday at 6:15 p.m.
Winona Christian boys 62, Central Holmes 37
The Stars outscored the Trojans in every period and pulled away to take a 25-point win on Monday.
Winona held a tight 15-12 lead at the end of the first period and then outscored Central Holmes 19-11 in the second period to take a 34-23 lead at the half. Winona then outscored Central Holmes 14-7 in third and fourth periods to take the win.
Jake Ware led Winona Christian with 25 points and six rebounds while Reese Johnson had 14 points and seven rebounds. Collin Parkinson also chipped in eight points.
Hayden Haffey led Central Holmes with 12 points while Bryce Hester had 11 points.
Winona Christian girls 79, Central Holmes 47
The Lady Stars dominated from the outset and rolled to a 32-point win over the Lady Trojans to complete district play undefeated.
Winona Christian jumped out to a 19-10 lead in the first period and then outscored Central Holmes 20-14 in the second to lead 39-24 at the half. Winona continued to extend its lead in the second half as they outscored Central Holmes 19-12 in the third and 21-11 in the fourth.
Bella Roberts had a big game with 35 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Olivia Brooks had 18 points and four steals while Sara Beth Rawles had seven points and eight rebounds. Autum Lishman also chipped in seven points.
Kate Riley had 14 points for Central Holmes while Allie McBride had nine points.
In the junior high game, Central Holmes won 36-19 as Allie McBride had 13 points and Hallie Fancher added nine points.
