Winona Christian’s week of non-district baseball wasn’t a good one for the Stars.
The Stars dropped a pair of games, losing 10-5 to Columbus Christian on Tuesday and 13-3 to Kirk Academy on Friday.
Winona Christian will return to play this week as they were scheduled to play Greenville St. Joseph at home on Monday and travel to the Bruins four a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Columbus Christian 10, Winona Christian 5
The Stars gave up 14 walks and the Rams scored in every inning to take a five-run win on Tuesday in non-district play.
Winona scored one in the top of the first while Columbus responded with two in the first and one in the second and third innings to go up 4-1. Each team scored three in the fourth while Columbus added two in the fifth and one in the sixth. Winona finished with one in the seventh for the final margin.
Winona had 10 hits in the contest as Hunter Land was 3-for-4 and Jake Ware was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Trace Carpenter was also 2-for-4.
Brannon Hill started on the mound and gave up six runs on one hit and seven walks while striking out four. Tyler Schraenkler pitched the next 1 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on three hits and four walks. Land pitched the next 1 1/3 innings and gave up one unearned run on three walks while striking out three.
Kirk 13, Winona Christian 3
The Raiders scored in every inning and used a big third inning to take a run-rule win over the Stars on Friday.
Winona scored one in the first while Kirk answered with two in the first and second innings. Winona answered with two in the third to cut the lead to 4-3. But Kirk scored eight in the third and one the fourth to take the run-rule win.
Winona had just four hits in the contest as Brannon Hill was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Trace Carpenter tripled and scored a run while Jake Ware doubled and scored twice.
Collin Parkinson started on the mound and pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up eight runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four. Carpenter pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up four runs on three hits and three walks. Hunter Land pitched the last 1 1/3 innings and gave up one run on two hits.
